News – Nov./December 2008 (Port Vila/Vanuatu, December 17, 2008)
- Website statistics: In November we were able to welcome on our website 35'049 visitors who did 1'176'450 hits.
- (October = 34'776 visitors – 1'233'386 hits)
- The visitors are coming from about 100 to 118 different countries!
- Record day since 12/17/1998 - the birthday of our website: 11/5/2007 = 13'407 visitors and 787'456 hits

- Exactly ten years ago, December 17th, 1998, our website www.weltrekordreise.ch (or also www.worldrecordtour.com)
- has been launched. Peter Frikart of Webdesign Screen offered us at that time an internet presence on Goldnet's ISP in
- Switzerland. Generously, all the routine costs have been paid by both companies until today – many thanks indeed! From
- July 15th, 2004, onwards, we (= Emil) have taken over as a webmaster from Peter Frikart. Because updating is done
- during our journey – and such a website is pretty labor intensive – now and then there are some "delays". Nevertheless,
- we hope to be able to report about our ongoing world record trip also in the future in this way and thank all visitors for
- their interest. At the same time, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

- Although we would have had enough time to write our "News" in November, we decided not to do it, simply because
- nothing new happened. Firstly nothing turned up from Fiji, the next 162nd destination; and secondly our planned visit of
- Vanuatu's biggest island of Espiritu Santo would have become much too expensive. The weather in Vanuatu is virtually
- always beautiful, even though it's supposed to be now rainy season. Hence, after having explored the 85-miles-ringroad
- of Efate extensively, we chose to spend the time in the swimming pool of the little "Blue Pango" Motel, located directly
- on the beach, driving now and then to Port Vila to shop at the market, and to write emails – more than 80 for Fiji alone.
- But patience and endurance finally pays for oneself: A few days ago, we received from the broker and shipping agent in
- Suva the good news that the Minister of Finance, who is simultaneously also the Prime Minister of Fiji, signed the import
- license for our LandCruiser. It was on the same day when the container vessel of the "Greater Bali Hai" shipping line left
- the harbor of Port Vila on its monthly sailing to Fiji. This makes us wait for the next one now, which is supposed to depart
- on January 7th, 2009, while we are booked firmly on the flight for Nadi on January 9th. Consequently, there won't be
- much news for us during Christmas and New Year, but an extensive beach holiday in the South Pacific isn't bad either!

- We are confident of being able to write our next "News" from Fiji in January 2009 and hope very much that we won't have
- an encounter with one of the notorious cyclones of the South Pacific.
