News April/May 2012   (Saint-Louis/Réunion, May 31st, 2012)

Website statistics:   In April we were able to welcome 38'390 visitors who did 1'418'289 hits, according to 'Webalizer'.
'Google-Analytics' showed 52'010 Pageviews during the same period. The visitors come from ~190 countries!
                                          (March = 42'125 visitors 1'338'106 Hits / March = 43'434 visitors 2'102'821 Hits)
                                  ('Google-Analytics': March = 41'580 Pageviews / February = 80'058 Pageviews / 203 countries)
Record day since 12/17/1998 = the birthday of our website: on 11/5/2007 = 13'407 visitors and 787'456 hits

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally we made it and were able to go a step forward: Since yesterday our LandCruiser is lashed in its 25th container and will go to
sea once more in two days: From Réunion to its 2nd "rejuvenation" in Miri - Sarawak - East Malaysia on the island of Borneo. There
we had done six years ago our first big repairs of our car: Engine and transmission overhaul as well as rust removing on a large scale.
While the engine still runs impeccably and the power train just needs a new clutch, the 30-year old body was heavily affected by the
always salty conditions close to the sea during our visit of 36 islands in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Unfortunately manual skills
like panel beating are becoming rare due to the throwaway mentality, forcing car owners to go the thirdworld countries. In doing so
attention has to be paid to a satisfactory quality – what is most likely available in Southeast Asia where also the trade with new or
second-hand parts still exists. The relatively reasonable shipping with PIL-Line allows to send our Toyota right back to the
Middle East in Northern fall to begin from there our already longer planned second crossing of Africa.

We count on a one-month repair. Thereafter we intend to drive via South Sarawak and the Indonesian Kalimantan for the second
time to Central Sulawesi, before we will encounter new land in North Sulawesi and the Moluccas. The 26th container shipping might
follow in October/November from Makassar in South Sulawesi.

It wasn't an easy decision, as the hefty investment still carries considerable risks. However, because we want to continue our ongoing
world-trip and view and discover the still unknown and missing countries, there is no avoiding on the longer-term.

Réunion: On the way to 'Piton de Mont Vert' between Saint-Pierre and Petit-Île in the South

Where do we spend our time until the container ought to arrive at the port of Bintulu in Sarawak on July 21st, 2012? We don't know
yet! By the way this is exactly the day on which the LandCruiser was given to us brandnew in Zurich 30 years ago, thus quasi its
"birthday". In fact it was manufactured already in January 1982 in Japan and after this shipped on February 27th, 1982, to
Bremerhaven to arrive in Switzerland on June 16th. If we are writing about an anniversary, we might as well mention the soon arriving
June 16th, 2012, On this day it's precisly 15 years when we got informed during an interview at BBC's Bush House in London that
we were admitted to the exclusive "circle of the Guinness-Book World-Record holders" with the title "The Longest Driven Journey".
We carry it unchallenged still today!
