News – September 2012 (Miri/Sarawak/Malaysia, September 30th, 2012)
- Website statistics: In September we were able to welcome 36'958 visitors who did 1'255'733 hits, according to 'Webalizer'.
- 'Google-Analytics' showed 41'495 Pageviews during the same period. The visitors come from ~194 countries!
- (August = 41'303 visitors – 1'464'298 Hits / July = 38'381 visitors – 1'214'770 Hits)

- Record day since 12/17/1998 = the birthday of our website: on 11/5/2007 = 13'407 visitors and 787'456 hits

- October is here, but the second "Rejuvenation" is almost finished; only the new shock absorbers are still missing. Unfortunately we have to give
- a miss to our planned Indonesia journey to North and Central Sulawesi and the Moluccas. Firstly our Indonesian visa expires in three days,
- secondly we would loose climatically valuable time needed for the next leg, and thirdly four days ago we received bad news from
- our German car-traveler friends Gunilla and Wilfried Gosslau, who were assaulted seriously on the Indonesian island of Lombok. Although
- our destination wasn't exactly there, our enthusiasm was strongly damped.
- Now to our next leg: Due to this "Lombok incident" we are checking out currently two possibilities. The first lies still in the Middle
- East, precisely in the United Arab Emirates and in Oman. Its continuation would lead by the end of year through Saudi Arabia to Sudan to
- cross for the second time the African continent. Certainly this would mean to monitor exactly the political and religious situation in the region.
- Should the crossing of Africa show to be too dangerous, we would switch in Northern spring from the Middle East to India and on to the
- Himalayas. This was also the reason we re-installed a new heater last week. However should the situation on the Arabian Peninsula worsen
- rapidly we would head from here towards Micronesia.
- Individual car trips are seemingly on the way to become very difficult and complicated, if it's not just North and South America or Australia.
- Either the journeys are getting too risky (e.g. Pakistan, Sahel region), or too expensive (e.g. China, Bhutan), or too complicated (due to
- shipping procedures or getting visas), or in some other ways impracticable (e.g. Myanmar, Japan, Sahara region). This kind of travel isn't only
- decimated by the "vehicle's evolution" (computerization of cars, findings of spare parts), but also due to the worldwide politicization and
- extremism. We hope that the latter is just a temporary phenomenon as the ever aging vehicles are causing anyway enough headaches on the
- road.
