News February 2014              (Tarrafal/São Nicolau/Cape Verde, 3/2/2014)

Website statistics:   Unfortunately 'Webalizer' has been shut down definitively in February 2013. 'Logaholic' is the current counter.
'Logaholic' shows now the following figures in February 2014: 22'759 visits / 81'160 pages
'Google-Analytics' showed 30'929 pageviews during February. The visitors come from ~221 countries!
                   ('Logaholic' January: 25'642 visits / 83'166 pages; December: 21'099 visits / 83'915 pages)
                        ('Google-Analytics': January = 33'590 pageviews / December = 28'702 pageviews)
Record day since 12/17/1998 = the birthday of our website: on 11/5/2007 = 13'407 visitors and 787'456 hits ('Webalizer')

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
27 days of February proceeded pretty work-intensive – except for the 24th, Emil's birthday. Hence we are now more or less up to date – the
remaining Georgia, Abkhazia, Ukraine, Moldova and Transnistria are online. Likewise is the second part of the island of Santiago on Cape Verde.

But best of all: We were finally able to "change" to another island – from Santiago to São Nicolau: On Friday, February 28th, we sailed on the
Fast Ferry "Kriola" during 7 hours from Praia in the south of the archipelago to Tarrafal, the port village of São Nicolau in the northern part.
Actually this was foreseen already for February 13th, but at that time the catamaran vessel couldn't leave due to heavy winds and too high waves.
But now it worked out – even if it swayed pretty heavily – exactly for the begin of this year's carnival – as it was the case from Trinidad to the
carnival of Grenada in August 2003.

FastFerry was so kind to grant us a discount of 50% on the relatively high cargo rates for the car: Instead of the full tariff of CVE 55’018 for the
trip from the capital Praia/Santiago to Tarrafal on São Nicolau we had to fork out 'only' CVE 30’500 (~US$380 incl. $75 fees).

Cape Verde/Island of São Nicolau: Driving northwest to Ribeira Prata

The continuation of our trip will happen (hopefully) after the carnival – two hours sea voyage from São Nicolau to São Vicente's capital Mindelo
(70'000 people). As "almost standard" on Cape Verde it's currently not known, when, how and with whom the ride will be. Mindelo is the second
hub on Cape Verde with an international harbor and airport, aside from the sandy, flat and nearly "pure" tourist island of Sal. As we mentioned
already in our News – January 2014 the other three islands of Sal, Boa Vista and Maio are unfeasible for us due to current impossible connection
choices, the available timeframe and last but not least the simply too elevated freight costs at most by plane without vehicle. FastFerry doesn't
serve them yet, however the second vessel "Libertadi" is to arrive in about a month and afterwards the situation will improve a lot. Though we are
still looking forward to the apparently most beautiful island of Santo Antão, before – presumably towards end of March – we have to say 'good-by'
again from the 180th country Cape Verde to the 181st country of ..... (our Toyota in its 28th container). Whereto, we shall reveal in our next News.
